Jack was tidying up the memorial benches at Daisy Nook Country Park, Oldham, earlier this week, and had his work inspected by a friendly robin. While our memorial bench allocation is now full, we have wonderful news! You can now plant a memorial tree with us in partnership with Oldham Council at Daisy Nook. We are pleased to share with you all two donations we made recently at the Sutton Bingham Memorial Forest. Yeovil Community Rivers Trust received £500 to support their fantastic work in protecting our rivers and promoting community well-being through outdoor activities. Another £500 went to @themayflyprojectuk who help children in foster care discover the joys of nature through fly fishing. The donation was received on behalf of the charity by Wessex Water Fisheries Ranger Richard who is one of their mentors. Do you Remember Our Starling Wood project at Beacon Fell Country Park? It was a monumental undertaking. We planted 8000 trees on a site devastated by storms, while also raising an impressive £9000 for local charities including @derianhousechildrenshospice , @trinityhospice , @brianhousech House , @pendlesidehospice , @st_josephs_hospice , @armybenevolentfund , @walkingwiththewounded , @boltonhospice , and @stcatherinespre Hospice. Fast forward a couple of years, and the transformation is astounding. Through tremendous community support, we’ve successfully established a diverse mixed species broadleaf woodland, replacing the once dominant Sitka Spruce monoculture. Today, the site is bursting with life, a testament to our collective efforts. Special thanks to @lancashirecc , @forestofbowlandnl , The Beacon Fell Volunteer Rangers, @pendlehilllp Hill Volunteers, BES Ltd and local Scout Troops. Despite the weather yesterday, we were thrilled with the turnout at the inaugural Easter Egg Hunt hosted by the Friends Of Sholver Millennium Green. With over 70 children and their families in attendance, the event was a resounding success. Attendees enjoyed exploring the Sholver Millennium Green , making use of the newly installed pathways. We would like to thank @rotaryinternational Club of Oldham Metro President Michelle Greenwood who officially opened the new pathways to start the event and also thank her Rotary International Club for contributing 50 eggs to the hunt. Funded by @loveoldham Council’s local improvement grant, the recent installation of pathways and steps is already greatly benefiting local residents. We would like to thank everyone who came out this morning and helped us support the Friends of Tandle Hill Country Park in their woodland management efforts. Together with the help of volunteers and Oldham Council countryside team we’ve coppiced Hazel trees, removed dead / dying trees and created some fantastic dead wood habitats that the Robin’s were making the most of straight away. This weekend the team were planting memorial trees with families across different memorial forest locations. Our final tree planting on Sunday was particularly special, as it was dedicated by the community of Broughton, Salford to honour six members of @salfordhcc (SHC). These individuals had devoted their expertise, time, and enthusiasm to enhancing community health by focusing on addressing Salford’s’ two major health challenges: cancer and cardiovascular disease. To day we commemorated the 50th anniversary of the M62 IRA coach bomb incident that occurred on 4th February 1974. A remarkable gathering from both Yorkshire and Lancashire came together to honour and remember those we lost in this tragic event. Earlier this month, we contributed by cleaning and refurbishing the monument, in preparation for this special day. The monument was installed in 2009 with assistance from @marshallsgroup As always we thank @welcomebreak for their unwavering support of this this annual service of remembrance. #wewillrememberthem
Yesterday, more than 70 members from the Broughton community in Salford came together. They gathered in our Clowes Park Memorial Forest to plant fruit trees, expanding the community windfall orchard. With strong support from @salfordrangerteam and @andy.horticulture.fab from @rhsbridgewater @rhsgrassroots , attendees learnt to create seed balls. Over 200 of these were made and then thrown on a designated grassy area we prepared earlier in the week. This activity will help to enhance the biodiversity of the forest’s grassland. Earlier this month, we had an excellent turnout at the community litter event hosted Friends of Sholver Millennium Green at the Sholver Millennium Green. We managed to gather more than 20 bags of rubbish, including 2 scooters and a bike, which @team_hill_charitable_trust will refurbish and repurpose.
