Nut Bank formed the start of the Life for a Life's growing partnership with Manchester City Council. The planting area was originally part of the 'Pike Fold' golf course and after extensive landscaping works and investment by the charity the memorial forest was officially opened in 2008.
A mixed hedgerow has been planted around the border to help protect the memorial trees for many years. The hedge also helps to improve the area's biodiversity by providing a mixture of habitats for local wildlife and birds. To further enhance the biodiversity, a small windfall orchard has also been planted, made up of a mixture of apple, cherry, pear and plum trees and their blossom will most certainly help to attract pollinators.
Life for a Life planting areas are natural environments where we encourage wildlife and plantlife to flourish, as such additional items should not be added to the tree or the space around it, especially as they can cause damage to the tree. Please be aware that any prohibited items left on or around memorial trees will be removed.
