Strinesdale Country Park - Queen Mothers Meadow - (SITE FULL) (FULL)
Holgate Street, Oldham
This beautiful meadow referred to as ‘The Queen Mothers’ Meadow was opened on 12th September 2009 as part of the 10th anniversary celebrations of the Charity, this is also seen as an extension of the existing Kings Meadow Memorial Forest opened in 1999 which has been highly successful for the planting of Memorial Trees.
The planting area gently slopes down towards the old Strinesdale Reservoir and is enhanced by the panoramic views that can be seen from the memorial forest.
The charity is proud to have had the first tree planted in this delightful spot for the renowned hero of the Battle of Monty Casino in World War II, the Polish General Wladyslaw Anders. The tree was planted by the Consul General of the Republic of Poland and endorsed by the Polish Embassy.
The country park over the years has become a breeding ground for ducks and wild geese and the whole of the area bustles with wildlife.
The area is carefully looked after by a group of local volunteers, the ‘Friends of Strinesdale’.
